FAQ

Before Treatment

For starters, liposuction is a surgical procedure that helps contour your body by removing excess fat deposits located just under the skin. It removes the pockets of fat that are most resistant to diet and exercise. Liposculpture is how a surgeon many sculpt areas of your body using the liposuction method. Lipo 360 essentially means lipo around the full circumference of your body – in other words you are turned over during the procedure 360 degrees so that both the front and back of your body are treated.

Generally, liposuction is considered a safe procedure, and if you follow your post-op instructions closely, there are rarely any serious complications.

Like all surgical procedures, there are some risks associated with each liposuction.

During your consultation, your surgeon will be able to fully lay out any risks for the type of liposuction you choose.

It’s important to note that every patient’s experience with liposuction is different, and some people may have more discomfort or pain than others. The surgeon’s technique is also important, in Lydian our patients usually feel much better after 3-4 days, full recovery typically takes around 1 month.

Liposuction is a procedure that is to remove excess fat cells from specific areas, like the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, etc. It is not a weight loss procedure that is intended for significantly overweight people. Rather than focusing on how many pounds or kilograms you can lose, think about the amount of fat removed and the resulting sculpted and toned appearance. It’s important to have realistic expectations about the procedure and its outcome.

An important consideration when evaluating whether liposuction is right for you is ensuring the skin envelope will not sag or look wrinkly with fat removed. This will be determined in your consultation with Dr. An.

There are two layers of fat you need to understand before determining if you are a good candidate for liposuction: subcutaneous fat and visceral fat. Subcutaneous fat can be stubborn to lose, and it lies between muscle and skin. Visceral fat, on the other hand, is the layer beneath the muscle layer around organs. Visceral fat cannot be removed, but the subcutaneous layer can. The subcutaneous layer’s integrity, as well as your skin’s elasticity will help determine if you are a good candidate.

It’s advisable to split the procedure into two surgeries, with 7-14 days between them, depending on recovery. This approach ensures better results and recovery by not removing too much fat at once. Patients unable to stay long can return within a year for the second surgery.

There are a few factors that an effect how long the results of liposuction last

  1. The amount of fat removed: The more fat that is removed, the longer the results are likely to last.
  2. The patient’s lifestyle: People who maintain a healthy diet and exercise regularly after liposuction are more likely to see long-lasting results.
  3. The patient’s age: Younger people tend to have better skin elasticity, which can help the skin conform to the contours of the body after fat removal.
  4. The patient’s genetics: Some people are naturally predisposed to gaining or losing weight in certain areas of the body, which can affect the longevity of the results of liposuction.

After liposuction or fat grafting, the fat cells that are removed are gone permanently. However, it is possible for the remaining fat cells to increase in size if the patient gains weight. Therefore, it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle after liposuction to help ensure long-lasting results. It is best suited for people who are already at a healthy weight and want to contour specific areas of the body.

Fat cells removed via liposuction are permanently removed; however, we recommend you maintain a stable weight to keep new fat from coming back to problem areas. Be sure to exercise and eat a healthy diet to help achieve long-lasting results.

Patients often worry about poor results, contour irregularities (bumpy skin), visible scars, and numbness. Discuss these risks with a qualified plastic surgeon before undergoing liposuction, and follow the surgeon’s post-operative instructions carefully to minimize them.
